Backcountry ski tour: Slettegga (742 m) from Bontveit – Bergen

Sletteggen is a short, rewarding ski tour from Bontveit with a steady climb, open mountain terrain, and wide views across the Bergen backcountry.

This tour starts at Bontveit (upper Bontveit valley). From central Bergen it’s about 35 minutes / 25 km by car (traffic depending). Free parking and usually plenty of space at the trailhead.

The approach follows the Livarden route: a gravel road past a few houses, then a tractor road. Keep left up the steep hill (signed Livarden) toward Rambjørgvatnet. Pass a bench at the end of the road, then continue straight toward Tverrmeisa (ignore the left/right signed options).

As the valley opens, stay left between Vierrinden and Tverrmeisa until you pick up cairns. Turn right up onto Vierrinden and follow the cairn line to the summit plateau. The cairn for Sletteggen (742 m) sits slightly back on the plateau—no summit book, but excellent views in every direction.

Want more? Link into Austefjellet / Hausdalshorga for a longer traverse, or head toward Gullfjellet (~987 m), Bergen’s highest. For a shorter nearby alternative, Livarden is a great option from the same start.
